"Headspace Invaders: Reflections on a mental overwhelm" is now out.
Cover for Headspace invaders
An incessant flow of toxic information is making us tragically dumb and miserable. I feel it to my bones. To the point where my mind and body forced me to stop and hide away: I experienced mental overwhelm to the point of burnout.
Through my personal experience of mental overwhelm I reflect on an issue affecting us all, citizens of the 21st century western world, hyperconnected, glued to our screens, struggling to keep up with increasingly complex and absurd lives and work lives.
I discuss factors that I think lead to the heavy flow of information we are exposed to. I make an inventory of my headspace invaders - from benign time wasters to downright evil stuff such as online fraud. I share my observations on the effects information overload has had on myself and people around me.
Headspace Invaders is by no means a self-help book. The last thing I want is to be found guilty of filling your headspaces with cookie-cutter solutions. It is an invitation to introspect. To reconnect with your inner voice and your humanity.
Albeit the product of a rigorous mind, Headspace Invaders is by no means an academic work. It is an intimate account, filled with anecdotes that I hope you will find relatable, entertaining, and at times touching.
Until collective action is taken to launch us on a much-needed cultural change, we each need to draw our own conclusions on a societal phenomenon beyond our control yet affecting us every day. I’m hoping this book can jump-start you on that journey or at least provide some form of catharsis.
